BRR a dazzling success, generates nearly $4K in Rippey

STAFF REPORT

Food, bikes and Iowa farmland always seem to ignite excitement.

Basking in the beauty of a calm, winter ride, more than 1,300 riders rolled along the highways of Greene County for the 46th annual BRR (Bike Ride to Rippey) Saturday, Feb. 3.
The atmosphere was festive and celebratory with temperatures rising into the mid 40s during the day. The bicyclists traversed 24 miles from Perry to Rippey and back, enjoying blue skies as well as plenty of food and drink dispensers.

A trio of Rippey based organizations brought in nearly $4,000 from the ride.
The Rippey Lions Club ran out of roast beef sundae ingredients as well as their chili by 1 p.m. Roughly 300 hungry visitors came through for the meal, generating around $1,700 to be used for community projects, Leader Dog and other worthy causes.

The Rippey United Methodist Church and the Rippey Baseball Commission split the profits of approximately $2,200  for their worthy causes. These organizations also ran out of their main items.
Both groups began serving early birds at 10 a.m. thanks to a dedicated band of volunteers to help throughout the day.

Pictured are various scenes in Rippey as well as along the route. BRR co-founder Dennis Hurley (left), visited Rippey for several hours, though he didn’t ride. He’s joined by his son, Jim Hurley (middle), and Tony Meister, both graduates of Perry High School.
