Harley rider hits parked cars

Randy Delp flown to Des Moines

Staff report

GRAND JUNCTION — A medical condition is being eyed as the cause of a motorcycle crash late Saturday that sent a rural Grand Junction man to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Randy Linn Delp, 55, was flown by helicopter to Des Moines after striking two parked cars shortly before 11 p.m. in the 200 block of 18th Street in Grand Junction.

Delp had been southbound on a 2014 Harley-Davidson when he drove off the roadway, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

He was thrown from the bike after striking the second vehicle.

Delp was on heart medication, according to Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert, so it’s possible his heart was a factor in the crash.

“We don’t think it was substance related,” Haupert said Monday.

As of Monday morning, Delp was awake and talking at Iowa Methodist, Haupert said.

Delp was first taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS, then by air to Des Moines.

Damage to the two vehicles Delp struck was estimated at $3,000 each. His motorcycle was a total loss.

Charges are pending lab results, the sheriff’s office reported.
