The Greene County board of supervisors on Feb. 9 approved a pre-construction agreement to apply hot mix asphalt resurfacing on Highway 30 from Iowa Highway 25 at Scranton to Highway 4 at Jefferson.

The board on Monday began running through proposed numbers for the fiscal year 2023-24 county budget.

The board examined the proposed revenue and expenditure budgets for each county department and program, looking at numbers provided by County Auditor Jane Heun, who in turn had received each department’s proposals. The board on Thursday this week was to review any remaining areas of the budget not yet finalized. Public hearings on the budget will follow in the next few weeks.

On another matter, Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer provided his monthly update of Jefferson projects and activities.

Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn said he has been working on joint 28E agreements between the county and nonprofit groups that will initially need approval from the nonprofit organizations, following by board of supervisors approval.

Kylie Lang and Rylie Gibson of Summit Carbon Solutions gave a presentation on progress of the company’s carbon pipeline project to transport liquid carbon dioxide from 32 regional ethanol plants to deep caverns below North Dakota. They answered questions about the project posed by the supervisors.

The board of supervisors as of now meets every Monday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the board room on second floor of the courthouse. When the budget process is completed in the next few weeks, the Thursday meetings will be eliminated.
