Ann Juergens
Olive Ann (Tucker) Juergens, age 81, of Scranton passed away on November 3, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson surrounded by her family.
Born on May 20, 1933 on her family’s farm near Grand Junction, Ann, as she was known to most, was the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel (Fisher) Tucker. She grew up in the Churdan area and graduated Churdan High School in 1951. She then went to Drake University for two years. Following college she lived in Jefferson and worked for the Harris Hanson Law Firm. She was married to Ron Juergens on April 25, 1954 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. The couple lived in Jefferson for four years before moving to Scranton. Ann worked as secretary to the superintendent of Scranton Consolidated Schools retiring in 1995. She served on the board of AFS Student Foreign Exchange Program for over 30 years. Ron and Ann hosted a student from Switzerland in 1978-79. She was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church and the Phlemon Club. She was also active with the “Pink Ladies” with the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary. Ann loved cooking and caring for her family. She enjoyed skiing in Colorado, going on shopping trips with her sister, and spending time with her family and many good friends.
Ann is survived by her husband Ron of 60 years; two sons: Kent Juergens and his wife Jeri of Urbandale and Jay Juergens of West Des Moines and his friend Nancy Petersen of Johnston; a sister Sharon Fauver and her husband William of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother Douglas Tucker and his wife Jean of Jefferson; two grandchildren Andrea and Alexander Juergens of Urbandale; a brother-in-law Jerry Juergens and his wife Shirley of Owatonna, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by an adopted daughter/foreign exchange student Marianne Oertli and her husband Daniel of Basel, Switzerland, an adopted son John Hanna and his wife Lynn of Geneva, and an adopted grandson Michael Endres and his wife Jenn of Papillion, Neb.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Samuel Swift-Juergens, and a brother-in-law Jim Juergens.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 7, at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Visitation will be held at the Scranton United Methodist Church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 6 evening. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy and soloist will be Bob Reck. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Scranton United Methodist Church or the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary.
