Betty Hight

Betty Joy Hight, age 84, of Scranton, passed away on Mar. 3 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Mar. 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Lynn Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5-7 p.m. on Mar. 6.  The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m. on Mar. 7 where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Martha Wolf and the soloist will be Bob Reck.  

Casket bearers will be Joey Schon, Marlin Hein, Evan Heck, Larry Winkelbauer, Paul Vote and Lee Schon.  

Betty was the daughter of Joseph and Selma (Becker) Brown and was born on August 11, 1929 at Randolph, NE. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1946 and taught country school for two years. She was married to Neil A. Hight on March 28, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Glidden. The couple farmed south of Glidden and in Lake City before moving south west of Scranton in 1954. Betty was active in all aspects of their farming operation. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Scranton where she taught Sunday school for many years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Jefferson Hospital for over 40 years. Betty enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, sewing, crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Betty is survived by her husband Neil of Scranton; a son Daniel of Omaha, NE; two daughters: Janet Hendricks and her husband Dennis of Bagley and Rebecca  Hight – Moravec and her husband Ron of Lincoln, NE; six granddaughters: Heather, Hope, Denise, Morgan, Melanie and Nancy; several great-grandchildren including Aiden and Reid Horel; sister Irene Winkelbauer and her husband Lou of Somers; many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Art and Ralph Brown; and sister Edith Milander.
