Butch Lauffer

Butch Lauffer, 74, of Creston, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at V.A. Central Healthcare in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Services will was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at First Baptist Church 1001 N. Lincoln Street in Creston. Pastor Dave Tebbenkamp and Pastor Dan Fields will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Military rites will be by Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post #1797. Visitation with family receiving friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to service time on Tuesday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Mayflower Heritage Christian School. Robert E. “Butch” Lauffer, was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Osceola, Iowa, to Marion H. Lauffer and Ruth Margaret (Stewart) Lauffer. He graduated from Creston High School in 1966 and studied at Creston Junior College. He entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1967 to 1971.

On Feb. 29, 1972, Butch was united in marriage to Connie Kay Young at the First Baptist Church in Creston. He worked for Wellmans when they first settled in Creston and carried mail for the postal service. They later moved to Jefferson in 1987 where he worked for the post office, becoming Postmaster in Gowrie. He retired in 2002 and returned to Creston in 2008 and returned to farming west of Afton, raising cattle and hay crops. He was a member of the Southwest Iowa Cruisers and the Elks Lodge.  He was a former member of the VFW and a regular coffee drinker with friends at the Eagles Lodge. 

Survivors include his wife, Connie Lauffer of Creston; two sons Blake (Kim) Lauffer of Afton and Courtney (Alisha) Lauffer  of Coon Rapids;  his mother-in-law Harriet Palmer of Creston; his brother Mike (Diane) Lauffer of Orient; one sister Harriett Chapman of Indianola; six grandchildren: Jeannette, Hailey, Gabriel, Benjamin, Easton, and Bristol Lauffer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
