Charles Coyne

Charles M. Coyne, 79, of Raymore, MO (formerly of Jefferson) passed away November 22, 2015, quietly at his home after a short battle with cancer.

Charles (Chuck) was born April 19, 1936, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Emmett and Doris (Sullivan) Coyne. Visitation was held at 10:00 a.m. on November 28, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., on November 28, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson. Concelebrants were Father Jeff Schleisman, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Father Robert Gralapp. Casket Bearers were Brian Coyne, Bruce Coyne, David Coyne, Casey Coyne, Emmitt Coyne, Benjamin Coyne and Gerald Kyle. Organist was Lois Last. Cantor was Amy Roberts. Hymns selected by the family were, “Be Not Afraid”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Here I Am Lord” and “Soon, Very Soon”. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery, Jefferson. Military Rites provided by Army Military Honors, Camp Dodge, American Legion Post #11 and VFW Post #9599.

Chuck graduated from Harrisburg High School and then joined the Army. Upon returning home he married Barbara Calkins, they moved to Brookings and he attended SDSU and received his BS in Pharmacy. Chuck was a pharmacist for 41 years in several locations, but built and owned his own Medicap Pharmacy in Jefferson, IA for 23 years. While in Jefferson, Chuck was very active in the community of Jefferson. Upon retirement, they moved to the Kansas City area and settled in Raymore, MO.  Chuck enjoyed travelling with Barbara, reading and gardening.  He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was very active with the Knights of Columbus.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Coyne; one brother and two sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 57 years; daughter, Susan Coyne; four sons, Brian Coyne (Kathy), Bruce Coyne (Gerald), David Coyne (Sharon) and Casey Coyne (Amber); brother, Tom Coyne (Mary); two sisters, Helen Newman and Elaine Aurit (Paul); nine grandchildren, Benjamin, Amanda, Renee, Tyrone, Kerry, Seth, Emmitt, Jeremy and Jessica; and six great-grandchildren, Jace, Jax, Allie, Forest, Orion and Megan.
