Darold Campbell

Darold Vern Campbell, son of Vern and LaVetta (Thornburg) Campbell was born May 17 1937 in Ogden and died Dec. 26 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care in Jefferson at the age of 77 years.

Darold attended school in Ogden and Cooper, graduating in 1955. During his senior year of high school, he enlisted with the United State Navy Reserve and served for four years.

On July 1, 1956 he was united in marriage to Rita Siegenthaler. Darold did various jobs, working at Tri-County Lumber and then in 1973 he started his own trucking business, Campbell Trucking.  He was very proud of his trucks.

Darold enjoyed playing golf until a major stroke forced him to retire.  Darold and Rita enjoyed trips to Arkansas every year around Thanksgiving time and loved spending time with his brother, John at his lake home in Wisconsin. After Rita’s passing, Darold was able to stay home alone for 2 years with the help of his daughter, Kimberly.  In Dec. 2011, Darold went to live at Long Term Care where he had lots of friends

Darold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita in 2009, brother John in 2006, and grandson Drew Campbell in 2008.  He is survived by 2 sons: Floyd Latta of Cedar Rapids, and Kevin Campbell of New Hope, Minnesota; one daughter Kimberly (Joe) Brant of Jefferson; 4 grandchildren: Cassie (Cory) Fowler, Ben (Shelby) Campbell, Derek (Taylor) Brant all of Jefferson, and Heather Brant of Des Moines; 5 great grandchildren: Kayleigh, Kyann, Carter, Leah, and Brody; 3 sisters-in-law: Anne Campbell of Eagan, Minnesota, Andi Blume of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mary Weidner of Ralston; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
