Donald Lindsey

Donald “Don” Monty Lindsey, 88, of Moorhead, Iowa passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2022 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead with Pastor Chip Borgstadt, officiating, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Don’s obituary. A Private Family Burial will be held at a later date in the Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments in Onawa. 

Donald Monty Lindsey was born on Jan. 25, 1934 to Charley L. and Mary C. (Monthei) Lindsey in Jefferson. He attended Jefferson Grade and High School. Following two years, in the United States Army from 1953-1955, he attended Iowa State University in Ames in 1955 and 1956 and graduated from Parsons College at Fairfield in 1960. Donald worked for A.M.F. Pinspotters in Chicago, Illinois before coming to Sioux City in 1960. 

Donald and Sheila Nielsen were married June 18, 1961 in Moorhead. He was a salesman at Schoeneman Lumber Company in Sioux City for many years. The family moved to Moorhead in May of 1970 where Don was a self-employed carpenter, and later a salesman at Berne Coop in Ute from 1971 until 1983. Don joined the Monona County Engineer’s Office Surveying Department in 1983 and retired in 1999. 

Don was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead where he was a member of the Church Council for many years. 

Don enjoyed working on the renovation of the City Ball Park in the 1970’s. Don spent many hours working on the dugouts, moving the back field 200 feet to regulation size, removing ditches, fencing, and building a new restroom.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Marie (Nielsen) Lindsey of Moorhead,; children, Jay Lindsey of Elk Point, South Dakota, Todd (Twyla) Lindsey of Sergeant Bluff, Susan (Trent) Kloostra of Sergeant Bluff, Kristine Wulf of Whiting, and John (special friend, Jill Hinkel) of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Nick Lindsey, Jen (Dennis Staley) Lindsey, Katelyn (Mike) Roel, Eric (Erin) Lindsey, Jon, Zack, and Josh Kloostra, Mike Wulf, Marcus (Andrea) Seaton, Shad Wulf, Justin Seaton, and Morgan Konz; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Mary (Monthei) Lindsey; parents-in-law, Harold and Esther (Eskelsen) Nielsen; brothers-in-law, Karl (Barb) Nielsen and Ivan (Janice) Nielsen; sister-in-law, Lottie (Jerry) Magill; and two nephews, Douglas Nielsen and Ken Nielsen.
