Eleanor Irene Meinecke, daughter of Fred Stephen Molle and Jennie Pearl Kinkead Molle was born September 16, 1921 in Cooper.  Eleanor had just celebrated her 94th birthday one month ago.   Eleanor grew up with her siblings Stephen and Maxine.   She graduated in 1938 from Franklin Township School in Cooper.  Eleanor then attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Drake University in Des Moines.  Throughout the following years she took many courses to enhance her teaching certificate.  Eleanor taught school twenty-eight years in Hopkinton, Runnells, Cooper, Jamaica, and YJB Community, retiring in May 1980.  Eleanor was united in marriage with Ort Meinecke November 18, 1948 at the Cooper United Methodist Church.  Eleanor was introduced to Ort by her brother Stephen. They were at a dance and the two continued to elegantly dance during their years together, often at Lake Robbins Ballroom.  Eleanor and Ort were blessed with two children, Sherry and Tom.  They farmed in Franklin Township, Greene County until January 1964 when they moved to Jamaica, IA.  She had always been a very active farm wife and mother.  Eleanor was a good cook and was known for her potato salad and cinnamon rolls. Her angel food cakes were a favorite and for many years provided them for the BINGO gatherings at the Jamaica Community Center.  Eleanor was a member of the Cooper United Methodist Church and for 67 years was a faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #687.  She was always busy reading, gardening, and sewing.  Her children fondly think of her “Ort” snowmen, made of a chenille bedspread that they enjoyed and Kandi sold at her business. Eleanor was faithful at journaling which she did up until September of this year.  She was the family historian, keeping track of all birthdays, weddings and other precious information. Teaching was her profession and she loved her students.  She tutored children and provided the gift of her loving care to many over the years.
