Estel Ott

Estel Delos Ott, son of Clarence Ott and Ila Pearl (Smith) Ott, was born Dec. 11, 1926 in Coon Rapids. He grew up in the Jefferson area, and graduated from Lake City High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on May 11, 1946, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 23, 1947.

On Feb. 22, 1948, Estel was united in marriage to Joan Stevens. They were the parents of five children:  Sheila, Pamela, Gary, David, and Roger. They made their home in Jefferson. Estel worked for 36 years Iowa Electric Light and Power Company, retiring in 1984.

On Feb. 14, 2007, Estel was united in marriage to Patricia Miner. They loved spending time together.

Estel was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. He could always be found helping others.

Estel loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved to play Cribbage whenever he could get a game going. For many years he was an avid pheasant hunter. He also enjoyed gardening and especially liked to grow sunflowers. He could often be found picking up walnuts and enjoyed wood working. He enjoyed bowling and bowled in many tournaments with his son, Roger.

Estel Ott died Feb. 8, at the Greene County Medical Center with his family by his side. He was 88 years of age. Estel was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan Ott who died Oct. 1, 2005; and two brothers: Dean Ott and Paul Ott.

Service was Feb. 12  at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson. Words of comfort by Rev. Timothy A Jones. Honorary Bearers Jessica Ott, Debbie Denhardt, Paige Johnson, Brie Ott, Stephanie Stoll, Stacie Clark, Amanda Clark, Andrea Knaub, Jacob Miner, and Jerry Miner. Casket Bearers were Tad Lawson, Tanner Thomsen, Will Thomsen, Jacob Johnson, Derek Ott, and Roman Ott.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Ott of Jefferson; two daughters:  Sheila (Paul) Alcorn of Ava, MO, and Pamela (Larry) Thomsen of Jefferson; three sons:  Gary (Reginna) Ott of Springfield, MO, David (Diane) Ott of Nevada, and Roger (Ronda) Ott of Jefferson; brothers:  Don (Janet) Ott of Jefferson,  and Jerry (Darlene) Ott of Carroll; step-children:  Don (Pam) Miner of Jefferson, and Terry Clark of Jefferson; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Greene County School Foundation for High School Math, or the Jefferson V.F.W. Post 9599.
