Ila Rossmanith
Ila Rossmanith, the daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Vance) Schamel, was born May 17, 1926 at Lohrville, Iowa and departed this life November 18, 2013 at the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City, Iowa. She lived a full life to the age of 87 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Ila grew up and attended school in Lohrville. As a young girl, Ila liked to tap dance and later in life she enjoyed dancing.
On August 22, 1942, Ila Schamel was united in marriage to Henry William Rossmanith at Blair, Nebraska. Four sons were born to this union. After their marriage, Henry and Ila engaged in farming in the Churdan and Gowrie area. Ila was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville and was a member of the Ladies Aid and church choir and also taught Sunday School. Ila gardened and her family will always treasure all of her great cooking she did for her family and friends. She also raised Pomeranian dogs for many years. Ila and Henry retired from farming in 1983 and moved to a home in Farnhamville. After their retirement, they spent their summers camping and fishing at Storm Lake. Henry passed away in 1993 and Ila continued to make her home in Farnhamville until 2006 when she became a resident of Shady Oaks Care Center.
Ila is survived by her four sons; Philip of Gowrie, Gary of Fort Dodge, Edward and wife, Wendy, of Rolfe and James and wife, Cecilia, of Churdan, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and brother, Danny Schamel of Lohrville. Those who preceded her in death were her parents, husband, brothers, Frank and Donald and sisters; Lois Garrett and Edna Weeks.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville with Rev. Robert Zellmer officiating. Burial was in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan, Iowa. Musical selections, “How Great Thou Art”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer” were sung by the congregation and accompanied by organist, Marsha Subbert.
Casket bearers were James, Philip, Edward, Gary, Thom, Jeremiah, Joshua and Michael Rossmanith. Honorary bearers were Sheila Pliner, Traci Brown, Becki Miller, LeAnn Eldridge, Angie Brus, Teri Schmieder and Sarah Keels.
