Jean Brabbs

Pyrle Jean Brabbs, daughter of George Laughery and Essie Goochey Laughery, was born September 1, 1923 in Guthrie County and died, July 12 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 90 years.

Jean grew up in Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School.  She worked as a school teacher and then later as a bookkeeper for Thompson Food Land for 17 years. On October 25, 1942, Jean was united in marriage to George Brabbs at the Bowman Chapel in Guthrie County, Iowa. They were the parents of two children:  Ruth and Dennis.

Jean and George made their home in Guthrie County Ankeny and then Grand Junction. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She enjoyed people, grand kids, playing cards, Rummikub, and drinking coffee with the ladies.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers. She is survived by her daughter: Ruth (Mike) Wiles of Guthrie Center; her son:  Dennis (Val) Brabbs of Scottsdale, AZ; her sister Leone Fritz of Jefferson; sister-in-law:  Mary Stewart of Des Moines; brother-in-law:  David Brabbs of Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
