John Francis Murphy

John Francis Murphy, 70, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

John was born the son of Oliver Murphy and Eleanor Murphy on March 5, 1944 in Jefferson. Growing up he attended school in Jefferson through 10th grade where he started working in the family business at the age of 16, Murphy Trucking. At the age of 18, John joined the United States Navy. He served in the United States Navy from 1962-1964, where he received an Honorable Discharge he sustained while on duty. On June 24, 1966 John was united in marriage with Goldie Irene John in Jefferson spending 48 years happily married. They relocated to Des Moines, where John continued to drive a truck and work as a diesel mechanic. In 1989, John had to stop his life long passion of working on trucks and driving them due to injury. John cherished spending time with his family, helping others, and fishing. He touched many people’s lives and will be remember by his laughter and his gift of telling jokes.

He was proceeded in death by Oliver Muphy (father), Elanor Murphy (mother), Marge Murphy (step-mother), Ronald Murphy (brother), Vern John (father-in-law).

John is survived by his wife, Goldie of Des Moines; children Jerry (Reba) Murphy of Indianola, Rodney (Amy) Murphy of Boone, and Christopher  (Carrie) Murphy of Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be help on Sunday, March 8th form 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, where the family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9th with burial at Rippey Cemetery. Memorial reception will be held immediately fallowing burial services at The Milwaukee Depot 507 East Lincoln Way, Jefferson.
