Joyce McVicker

Joyce A. McVicker, 90, of Lisbon, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023. Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, IA, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00am. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am. Inurnment will follow at Dunkard Cemetery in Midway, IA.

Joyce Arlene Olson was born September 17, 1932 in Hamilton County, IA to Arnold and Jeanette (Hoveland) Olson. She graduated from Stanhope High School, and later attended classes at Iowa State University. Joyce was united in marriage to William “Bill” K. McVicker on January 28, 1951. She worked for many years as a Medical Records Librarian. In her retirement, Joyce enjoyed volunteering with various organizations.

Joyce was a kind person, never having a complaint or ill word to say. Her greatest joy was her faith and spending time with her family. She also loved camping with Bill in their RV and later their park model home. She enjoyed music, golf, hiking, dancing, reading, and bird watching.

Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her children, Bill (Sandy) McVicker, Carla (Dan) Murphy, and Kent (Bonnie) McVicker; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bill; her parents; and brothers, William Olson and Lawrence Olson.
