Judith Sell

Judith E. Seil, 88 passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Aaron Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Reading Township Cemetery in Farnhamville. A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie is in charge of arrangements.

Judith Elaine Seil was born Aug. 8, 1934 at Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City to Adolph C. and Cenelia E. (Rieck) Wurch. She graduated high school from Blairsburg Community School (NE Hamilton) in 1952. In 1956, Judy graduated with a BA in Vocal Music from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). Judith taught four years of music in Humboldt. On June 5, 1960, she was united in marriage to Duane H. Seil from Churdan at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. They then moved to their family farm southwest of Gowrie. Judith taught music grades 1- 12 in Paton and substituted in Cedar Valley and Prairie Valley Schools. Judy was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville where she was a member of LWML and served in several offices. She taught Sunday school, bible school and catechism. Judy directed the church choir for 22 years. She was an active member of the Farnhamville Women’s Study Club. In 1996, Judy and Duane retired and moved to Farnhamville. Judy was a life member of the UNI Alumni Association and of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Diane Jensen, stepbrother Keith Tatge and a brother-in-law Delvin Seil.

Judy is survived by her son David Seil and his wife Barbara of Gowrie and their children Derek Seil of Marlow, NH and Megan Seil of Johnston, daughter Rachel Seil of Jefferson, stepbrother Wayne (Betty) Tatge of Temple, Texas, brother-in-law Russell Jensen of Humboldt and a sister-in-law Marlene Miller of Fremont, Nebraska, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be left to family discretion. Gowrie is in charge of arrangements.
