Judy Mohler

Judy Mohler, 78, of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines.

Judith Eleanor Mohler was born March 27, 1944 while the family was living in Dunreath to proud parents Carl Reeves and Florence Mae (Swanson) Mohler. Three years later, a little sister Carolyn joined the family. She grew up in Dunreath in Red Rock Township in rural Marion County. She attended White Walnut Country School, then Monroe Community School, graduating in 1962. Following high school graduation, she attended Graceland College in Lamoni, earning a B.A. degree in elementary education in 1966.

She accepted a teaching position in the fall of 1966 in the Yale-Jamaica-Bagley (YJB) School District, teaching third grade. The YJB School District later reorganized into the Panorama School District. She continued teaching in that same district throughout her entire 36-year teaching career. In her retirement, Judy enjoyed working as a substitute librarian at the Jefferson Public Library and as a volunteer in the gift shop at Greene County Medical Center. She also enjoyed participating in church activities and doing things with her sister and close friends.

Judy was a lifelong member of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as Community of Christ. She was an ordained elder in Community of Christ and served as the local congregational financial officer for many years.

Judy is survived by her beloved friend Marilyn Millard, Marilyn’s sister Jane, both of Jefferson, their precious little dog Molly, and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Carolyn Mohler Bristow, brother-in-law Larry Bristow, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousin Cathy Swanson Hedrick and her cousin Candy Swanson Lundy’s husband Keith Lundy.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 at at Monroe Community of Christ. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery, with lunch following at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson Public Library or the Jefferson or Monroe Community of Christ.
