Lena Lawson

Lena M. Lawson, the daughter of Joseph and Roxie Emma (Kehoe) Ferrin, was born Dec. 21, 1920 at her family farm home in Calhoun County, and departed this life Feb. 12, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. She attained the age of 94 years old.

Lena attended school and graduated from the Lohrville High School in 1938. On July 1, 1939, Lena Ferrin was united in marriage to Vernon Lawson at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan.  Four sons were born to this union. Vernon farmed in the Churdan and Farnhamville area and Lena was a farmwife, mother and raised their family. In March of 1977,  Vernon and Lena moved to a home in Churdan. Lena worked at the Casey Store from 1978 to 1995. Vernon passed away in October of 1995. Lena moved to the Sunnyview Retirement Apartments in Rockwell City in 1998 and lived there until 2013 when she became a resident of the Marion Home in Fort Dodge.

Lena was a current member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City and a former member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. While in Churdan, Lena was a member of the C.D. of A, the Rosary Society and taught CCD.  Her life was surrounded by her faith and her family.

Lena was survived by two sons; Bill (Fran) Lawson of Rockwell City and Dennis of Cottonwood, Arizona, a daughter-in-law, Lorna Lawson of Urbandale, six grandchildren; David (Annette) Lawson, Dan (Jeanine) Lawson, DeLynne (Jay) Murphy, Chuck (Carrie) Lawson, Sue Paul and special friend, Doug and Matt (Lisa) Lawson, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Bohnenkamp of Lake View, many nephews and nieces and other relatives. Those who preceded her in death were her parents, husband, two sons, Larry and John, a grandson, Michael Lawson and a niece, Pazzi Bohnenkamp.

Mass of the Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Feb. 17, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City with Father Brian Danner officiating. Burial was made in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Lohrville. Musical selections were played by organist, Gayle Johnson and sung by the church choir with Lisa Wozniak serving as Cantor. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Chuck Lawson, David Lawson, Dan Lawson, Matt Lawson, Jeff Bohnenkamp, Kim Tasler and Jay Tasler. Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters; Sue Paul and DeLynne Murphy, great-grandchildren; Brittany, Bailey, Taylor and Alexi Lawson, Nick, Sean, Sam and Megan Lawson, Catherine and Luke Lawson, Joey and Brian Paul, Stephanie Edwards,  Hunter Larrison, T.J. and Riley Murphy and Jessica, Kobe, Halle and Ella Lawson.
