Linda Helms

 Linda Marie Helms, daughter of Loyd Wesley Baugh and Patricia Ann Mozena Baugh, was born Aug. 11, 1948 in Carroll. She lived in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, then Bayard in 1964, and in 1966 she moved to Jefferson. Linda graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967. On Sept. 23 of that year she married the love of her life Billy Wayne Helms at the United Methodist Church. Linda worked at Casey’s in Dexter as the manager, Kum & Go, and AAI in Jefferson. Linda and Billy Wayne were blessed with three children, James, Shonnez, and Jeremy. She enjoyed watching crime shows on TV especially NCIS and Blue Bloods. Linda was a cook at Heartland Pantry, Maid-Rite, and the LunchBox Cafe that her mom Patricia owned. She loved being “Nana” more than anything, and her grandchildren were her whole life. Linda liked going shopping, and everytime she would see a garage sale sign she would have her kids pull over and go check them out. She died Feb. 17, 2022 at Mercy One Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 73.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Billy Wayne in 2011. She is survived by her children, James Helms (Amanda) of Churdan, Jeremy Helms (Melissa) of Lake City, and Shonnez Helms of Lake City; grandchildren, Zachary Florea (Haylie) of Lake City, Chaylin Helms Florea of Lake City, Jenna Honneycut (Justin) of Rockwell City, Jerad Reed of Coon Rapids, Breanna Helms of Newton, Tyler Helms of Lake City, Billy Helms of Lake City, Levi Helms, Rozella Helms, and Rylin Helms all of Churdan; great-grandchildren, Aidyn, Grace, Gabe, Jasmine, Lelan, and Skylar; brothers Robert “Bob” Baugh (Sandy) of  Jefferson and Steve Baugh of Panora; sister Barbara Baugh of Colorado, other relatives and many friends. Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of arrangements. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson with family present from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 also at the funeral home. Pastor Richard Kaiser of Des Moines provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were: Tyler Helms, Levi Helms, Steve Baugh Zachary Florea, Danny Baugh, and Steven Baugh. Honorary bearers were: Aydin Florea, Gabe Haman, Billy Helms, Rylin Helms, Grace Helms Florea, Rozella Helms, and Jasmine Honneycut. Pianist was Renaye Lindgren, and soloist Amanda Helms. Interment took place at the Jefferson Cemetery.
