Linda Smith

Linda Kay Smith, daughter of Jasper Faaborg and Evelyn Bonnesen Faaborg, was born Feb. 21, 1940 in Kimbolton. Linda grew up in Kimbolton and Jefferson. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. A few months later on Nov. 14, 1958, Linda married the love of her life Jack Darrel Smith. The couple was blessed with two daughters Teresa Kay and Julie Ann, and a son Jack Daniel. The family lived in Des Moines for some time, then for 20 years they lived in Bayard, and then in Coon Rapids. Linda was a devoted mother, wife, and especially grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a social butterfly who loved telling stories.
Linda worked at the A&W in Jefferson, and as a babysitter in Des Moines. She enjoyed doing puzzles, watching soap operas, and checking social media. Linda was a member of the Red Hat Ladies.
She passed away on Oct. 7, 2022 at UnityPoint Hospice Taylor House in Des Moines.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Jasper and Evelyn Faaborg; husband Jack Smith; and brother Steve Faaborg. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Teresa Smith of Black Mountain, North Carolina and Julie Ann King (Jeff) of Des Moines; son Jack Daniel Smith (Sandy) of Ankeny; seven grandchildren: Jason Weiman of Boulder, Colorado, Derek Weiman of Boulder, Colorado, Michael King (Anna) of Newton, Travis King (Jenny) of Grimes, Shannon Smith of West Des Moines, Lexi Zahn (Zach) of Des Moines, and Jack Dillon “JD” Smith (Kelsey) of Ankeny; four great-grandchildren: Susie, Grace, Michael James, and Charlotte King; sisters Marilyn Nelson of Minnesota, and Janice Bielenberg of Coon Rapids; and sister-in-law Linda Faaborg of Arizona; her favorite pet Abby; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Chaplain Angelo Luis of St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were Mike King, Travis King, Zach Zahn, Ken Curnes, and J.D. Smith. Honorary casket bearers were Susie, Grace, Michael James, and Charlotte. Recorded songs selected were “I’ll Fly Away” by Jim Reeves, “In The Garden” by Alan Jackson, and “Amazing Grace” by Randy Travis. Interment took place at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson.
