Madonna Garrity Kinsman

Madonna Garrity Kinsman was born April 12, 1926 at Bayard. She was the daughter of Thomas Patrick Garrity and Agnes Day Garrity. The family moved to the Cooper area in 1927. Madonna began elementary grade school in Cooper. When the family moved to Greenbrier Township, Madonna attended country school at Greenbrier #6. In 1943, she graduated from Cooper High School, then attended business college in Des Moines, graduating in 1944.

Madonna was united in marriage to Howard Marvin Johnson on June 14, 1949. They lived in Ames, Iowa; Winfield, Kansas; Paris, Illinois; and Angola, Indiana. Howard died in 1960 at

On August 6, 1977, Madonna married Kenneth E. Kinsman. They lived in Jefferson. Kenneth died July 30, 2000.

Madonna was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson and belonged to the Ladies Guild.  She was a member of the Greene County Historical Society, Jefferson Does #196, and the Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary.  She did volunteer work for several organizations in Jefferson.

Madonna Garrity Kinsman died at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit on February 15, 2015 at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Johnson in 1960, and her husband, Kenneth Kinsman in 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents; twin brother, Marion (Mike) Garrity; brothers: LeRoy Garrity, Delos Garrity, and Francis (Pete) Garrity; and  sisters: Marie Koller and Marguerite (Margo) Garwood.

Madonna is survived by nieces and nephews: Judy Garrity Bang (Bill), Theresa Garrity Hartsfield (John), Kathy Garrity Lucas (Stan), Tom Garrity (Jeanne), Tim Garrity (Deryl) and John Garrity (Lisa), all of N.C.; Michelle Garrity Derrick (Dirk) and Jimmy Garrity (Jenny), all of South Carolina; Mary Wolterman (Mike) of Jefferson; and Dennis Day (Trisha) of Madison, Wis.;  sister-in-law, Nora Garrity of Jefferson; other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Greene County Medical Center Foundation, and the Greene County Historical Society.
