Margaret Dozier
Margaret Jeane Dozier, 88, of Boone and formerly of Jefferson, died on June 16, 2016, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone where she resided for the past three years.
Following her wishes, she has been cremated. A Memorial Service was held at First United Methodist Church in Boone on Tuesday, June 21, with Rev. Dr. Gary Armstrong officiating. Burial of her cremains will be at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson at a later date.
Margaret was born in Churdan, Iowa, on March 23, 1928, to Lyle Edward Howard and Grace Agnes (Kirkham) Howard. On December 6, 1947, Margaret was united in marriage to Lloyd Dozier in Phoenix, Arizona. During their marriage they resided in Jefferson, Phoenix, Ames and Boone.
Margaret attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She worked for the federal government for nearly 30 years. She managed the Selective Service office in Ames and then worked for Social Security Administration and the National Veterinary Services Lab, both in Ames.
Margaret’s family was her priority and she was the heart and soul of many family gatherings over the years. She was an excellent cook and everyone looked forward to her signature dishes. In recent years, she was devoted to her grandchildren’s activities. Margaret loved music, having performed from an early age in her family’s band, playing the accordion and singing. She continued to enjoy music throughout her life and she was an excellent pianist and organist. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for many years. She was an avid collector of antiques and belonged to Questers. She was also active with the Boone County Democrats. Margaret enjoyed travel and genealogy.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd in 2002; and her son, Steven in 2010. She is survived by her children: Sharon (Jim) McDonald of Windsor Heights, IA., Richard of San Francisco, Calif., Susan (Donovan) Olson, of Boone, and David (Roxanne) of Ogden; her daughter-in-law, Lyla Dozier of Des Moines; two brothers, Robert (Bernice) Howard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jerry (Cindy) Howard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her sister-in-law, Nancy Dozier of Marion, IA.; grandchildren: Ryan and Anna Olson, and McKayla, Lydia and Cael Dozier; and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff of Eastern Star Masonic Home and Gentiva Hospice for the excellent care and compassion shown to her.
