Mary Simmons

Mary Simmons of Jefferson died Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Veterans Hospital Unit in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ms. Simmons was born March 18, 1939, in Manhattan, Kansas. Following the death of her mother, Mary was raised by her grandparents. After high school graduation, she joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. She was very proud of her years of military service.

Mary moved to Jefferson in 2008 and immediately fell in love with rural Iowa and the Jefferson community. She made friends easily and enjoyed visiting over a cup of coffee. Although no formal funeral service will be held for her, a Friendship Remembrance Coffee will be hosted by Nina and Doug Harr on Saturday, December 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, ELCA, 1201 S. Elm Street, Jefferson, Iowa. Those who knew Mary are cordially invited to attend and visit over a cup of coffee with her circle of friends.
