Michael Skalla

Michael Dean Skalla passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at the family farm in Scranton on Nov. 12, 2022.

Michael was born July 27, 1954 in Carroll and was the son of Junior and Mildred Skalla. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1973. Then attended Scott Community college in motorcycle mechanics in Davenport. He worked many years at Case IH until the plant closed. He then became locally known as the “lawnmower man” and fixing almost anything. Michael was also a meticulous bookkeeper for numerous farm jobs, at neighbor’s requests, especially helping with harvest in the big John Deere.

Michael loved his family especially the little ones and making people laugh.

Michael enjoyed his motorcycles, playing Skip-Bo, and a good meal finished off with a turtle sundae.

Survivors include his three children; Shonda Gonzalez and her husband Joe of San Antonio Texas , Melody West of Bettendorf, Ryan Skalla and his fiancée Janet of Davenport. Eight grandchildren; Dylen, Hannah, Thea, Abi, Livia, Regina, Degan, and Canten. Three great-grandchildren Elijah, George and Sawyer; sisters Teresa Jones of Ackworth, RoseMary Thompson (Mark) of Ames, Karen Caraher (Mark)of Glidden; brothers Daniel Skalla (Lynn) of East Moline, and Dennis Skalla of Pueblo, CO, and many other extended family and friends.

Michael is preceded in death by parents Junior and Mildred Skalla; and brother-in-law Fred Jones.

Visitation will be at noon Monday, Nov. 21 at the Church of Christ in Scranton until the service at 2 p.m.
