Nancy Jane Halterman, age 77 years and 5 months, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born on May 24, 1945, in Carroll to Carl and Verna Schumacher. She grew up on a farm and attended Coon Rapids Community School where she graduated on her 18th birthday. After high school graduation, she left for Omaha, NE to attend a secretarial course at Commercial Extension. She completed a 9-month course in 6 months and went right to work in Omaha. She worked as a secretary/administrative assistant for 40 years, mainly in the agricultural area. She laughed about that as she loved the city and living in the city.

On April 17, 1966, she married the love of her life, Gerry Halterman, and they headed to San Diego, CA where Gerry was stationed for four years. Nancy lived alone for a year there while Gerry served in Vietnam. Born to the family were Bradley Aaron and Ryan Lynn. And adopted daughter, Jana Gwen, was added. Because of living in so many different places, Nancy felt blessed with friends all over Iowa. She loved keeping in touch with them.

Nancy had a love for Jesus as her Lord and Savior that anyone who met her could attest to. Followed closely to that was Nancy’s love of family which she enjoyed attending any and all kids and grandkids activities through the years.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Gerry; sons Brad (Brenda) of Panora, IA and Ryan (Brandi) of Polk City; adopted daughter, Jana Gwen; grandchildren: Bryce (significant other Callie), Katryn, Brooke and Kaden; sister, Susan (Larry) of Oskaloosa and brother, Richard (Deb) of Panora, IA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Verna Schumacher; and in-laws, Edythe and Gerald Halterman.

Services by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.
