Patricia MacDonald

Patricia Arleen MacDonald, 87, of York, Nebraska and formerly of Scranton, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at York General Hearthstone in York, Nebraska.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 20 at the United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Larry Dowd. Casket bearers will be Brandon Tegart, Paul MacDonald, Jason MacDonald, Adam MacDonald, Alex Smith and Craig MacDonald. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The casket will be moved to the United Methodist Church in Scranton at 9:30 a.m. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service.

Born October 9, 1930 in Scranton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Oral Clarence and Alta Faye (Sayre) Thomas. She grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1947 as valedictorian of her class. Following high school Pat took nurse’s training and worked as a nurse’s aide at the Jefferson Hospital. She was married to Gerald MacDonald on December 11, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Scranton. In 1952 they moved to the Duff 80 acre farm. The couple then moved to West Liberty, Iowa (1961 – 1962), Tiskilwa, Ill. (1962 – 1964), Laurel, Neb. (1965 – 1971) and York, Neb (1971 – present). Pat was a homemaker and worked part time at the theater, bakery, grocery store and as a nurse’s aide in York. She loved her family and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren.

Pat is survived by a daughter, LynNette Turner (Patrick) of Dixon, Missouri; two sons, David MacDonald (LeAnna) of Omaha, Neb. and John MacDonald of Bellevue, Neb.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Gertrude Smith of Milford, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Eleanor MacDonald of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Oral and Alta Thomas; her mother and father-in-law, Max and Mildred MacDonald; a daughter, LeeAnn Regier; grandson, Kevin Bayer; granddaughter, Tonya Tegart; great-grandson, Sean Thomas MacDonald; and her husband, Gerald MacDonald on October 27, 2012.
