Patricia Oxenford

A Celebration of life memorial service for Patricia Oxenford, 78, was held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah with Pastor Humberto Gonzalez as officiate. Memorial visitation with the family was held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.  Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Scranton, Iowa Cemetery.  Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.hackettlivingston.com.  

Patricia Jo (Amsden) Oxenford was born Dec. 23rd, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up on the Amsden family farm and graduated from Scranton Consolidated School-Scranton, Iowa in 1955. Patricia was a member of Rainbow and was involved in Methodist youth activities. She attended Commercial Extension-School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb. Patricia was employed in Omaha two years as a private secretary. She attended modeling school, doing some modeling on TV and was in Omaha’s Auto Show representing Miss Buick.

Patricia married Charles Oxenford Aug. 3rd, 1957 in the Methodist Church in Scranton. They lived in Wayne, Neb. for one year, 1957-1958 where Charles received his Bachelor’s degree. Debora Jo was born in 1958. They moved to Lamar, Colorado and lived there from August 1958 to 1965. Charles taught Business at the Junior College and also worked in a Certified Public Accounting firm. Cherrill Sue was born in 1961 and Janine Marie in 1963. For the summers of 1959, 1960 and 1961 the family moved to Greeley, Colo. where Charles earned his Master’s Degree. The family moved to Carroll 1965 to 1967. In 1967, they moved to Shenandoah. Charles obtained his C.P.A. certification and bought his own practice. Their country home was built in 1974. After retirement, they spent half of the time in their second home at Sturgeon Bay, Wis. acquired in 1987.

They did extensive traveling to over 50 countries and six continents during their retirement years. Patricia’s interests were my family, quilting, knitting, family genealogy, her dogs, cross-country skiing at her country home, going for daily walks with her dogs, working part time at Charles’ office and doing secretarial duties for other businesses, PEO, love of music, friends and traveling.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Verba Amsden and a brother-in-law, James Juergens.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Oxenford; sister, Betty Ann Juergens of Carroll; daughters: Debora Krayna and husband Kevin of Longmont, Colo., Cherrill Oxenford of Grinnell, IA., and Janine Oxenford of Council Bluffs, IA.; grandchildren: Sven (Trisha) Adkins of Commerce City, Colo., Alexis (Micheal LeMieux) Adkins of Denver, Colo., Tylar (Nick) Gallagher of Belle Plaine, IA., Carly (Lee Schneider) Dayton of Grinnell, Peter Dayton of Iowa City, IA., Adam Oxenford of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Stella Aherns and Stormy Aherns of Council Bluffs, IA.; 14 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Rick (Jana) Oxenford of Green Valley, Ariz., Jim (Lynn) Oxenford of Green Valley, Ariz. and Jon (Linda) Oxenford of Ankeny, IA.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
