Paul Walker, 90, of Scranton died Saturday, August 20, 2016.

A Service of Remembrance was held Wednesday, August 24 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Sheldon Henderson of Central Christian Church, Jefferson. Honorary bearers were Merle Vokt, Dean Wright, Duane Larson, Dean Lentz, Curt Eason and granddaughters: Kim, Tina, Renae, Jessica and Carrie. Casket bearers were Aaron R. Walker, Derek P. Walker, Daniel P. Walker, Jeremy J. Walker, David C. Wendle, Adam M. Wendle and Daniel J. Wendle. Music was by Tracey Amano and selections were “Old Rugged Cross” and “One Day At A Time.” Interment was at Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson with Military Honors by Jefferson V.F.W. Post 9599, Floyd Brown American Legion Post #11, United States Army Honor Guard.

Paul Monroe Walker was born in rural Calhoun County on January 18, 1926 to Loren T. and Eva Belle (Wright) Walker. Paul passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa.

Paul grew up in the Jefferson area. He attended the Jefferson Public Schools. Paul was united in marriage on December 11, 1949 to Dolores Jane Shank of rural Jefferson. They were married for 66 years. They were the parents of three children: Rob, Jim and Jane. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Scranton, moving there in March of 1954 and continued to live there until the time of Paul’s death.

Paul was drafted into the United States Army in 1951, serving during the Korean War Conflict. While in the Army, the couple moved to Camp Chaffee at Fort Smith, Arkansas and then to Seattle, Washington, until Paul shipped out to Yokohama, Japan. Paul was part of Battery B, 97th Heavy Anti Aircraft Artillery Unit assigned to the United States Air Force base in radio communications.   Paul was Honorably Discharged in November, 1953. Shortly thereafter he moved to the Scranton farm where he began his career of farming, raising livestock of cattle and hogs and growing crops.

Paul had several interests including fishing at the family cabin in Northern Minnesota, riding horses, his dog companion, Max and most importantly his family including twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Eva; brother, Earl and his wife, Harriet; brother, Lyle and his wife, Lois; mother and father-in-law, Doyle and Beulah Shank; brother-in-law, Gus Ponx, Jr.; and son, James Paul Walker.

Paul is survived by wife, Dolores Walker of rural Scranton; his children, Rob Walker of Tecumseh, Neb. and Paula Jane (Charles) Wendle of Greenwood, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Sue Walker of Scranton; sister, Lois Lentz (Dean) of Jefferson; sister-in-law, Esther Ponx of Jefferson; grandchildren: Aaron and Derek Walker, Carrie Vreeland (Paul), Jeremy Walker, Kim Koch (Matt), Tina Clark (Jeff), Renae Baugh (Ronnie), Jessica Albers (Brandon), Dan Walker (Holly), David and Daniel Wendle and Adam Wendle (Laura); eighteen great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church of Jefferson, Iowa.
