Randy Love
Fire Chief Randy Love died July 17, 2016 in his home in Jefferson at the age of 56.
A service of remembrance was held Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Greene County High School Auditorium, Jefferson, officiated by Rev. Sheldon Henderson of Central Christian Church. The speakers were Asst. Chief Dean Promes, Capt. Jack Williams and Terry Becker. “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw and “Shine Your Light” by Robbie Robertson were played. Honorary bearers were the Jefferson Fire Department. Terry Becker, Gary Schiltz, Capt. Jack Williams, Steve Hagen, Kerry Hansen and Robert Lawson were the casket bearers. Interment was at Carson Cemetery, Carson, Iowa with Honors by the Harlan Honor Guard.
Randy Lee Love was born April 12, 1960 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Kenneth Love and Donna [Gustin] Love Devilbiss. Randy was raised in Carson, Iowa with his sister, Jeannie and brother, Kenny Vernon, along with cousins: Micky, Stanley and Larry. Randy graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1978. He went to Des Moines Area Community College, graduating in 1980. Randy began working for Jefferson Telecom in 1980 and has worked there for 36 years. On August 4, 1984, Randy married Amy Wolterman and had three daughters: Sara Mallinger (husband Josh), Jessie Love and Abby Love.
Randy was a member of the Jefferson Jaycee’s and B.P.O E. Lodge # 2306. He joined the Jefferson Fire Department in 1995 and became fire chief in 2009. He joined the Greene County Fair Board in 2012.
Randy’s hobbies included NASCAR, motorcycles, the fire department, boating and camping with family. He had many trades that he learned quickly and easily throughout the years such as electrical work, construction and mechanical work.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna and his brother, Kenny. Survivors include his three daughters: Sara (Josh) Mallinger of Des Moines, Jessie Love of Huntsville, Ala., and Abby Love of Des Moines; father, Kenneth Love of Carson; sister, Margaret “Jeannie” Love of Atlantic; granddaughter, Cadence Mallinger; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
