Robert Whitver

Robert Roy Whitver  the son of Roy Whitver and Edith Seaman Whitver, was born Aug. 20, 1924 in Jefferson and died Dec. 21 at the Regency Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson at the age of 90 years.

Bob grew up on a farm in Bristol Township and attended Bristol #8 school. After graduating from high school in 1943, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Reno, engaging in many conflicts with the Japanese before his ship was torpedoed. Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, and went to Oklahoma where he attended Oklahoma State College for one year.

On April 3, 1948 Bob was united in marriage to Vicki Ludwig. They farmed for 35 years while raising their six children. At one time, Bob was a farmer, realtor, real estate appraiser and auctioneer all at the same time.

Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jefferson.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Edith; his wife Vicki in 2002; brothers:  Morris, Paul, Ralph, Albert, Max, Don, and Howard; his sisters: Marian, Florence, and Hazel Rasmussen; and granddaughter Jessica.  He is survived by his 5 sons: Tom (Dorothy) Whitver of Jefferson, Dick (Jan) Whitver of Jefferson, Gary (Laura) Whitver of Gettysburg, Pa., Ed (Deb) Whitver of Grimes, and Brian (Jodi) Whitver of LeMars; his daughter Sue (Dave) Weiss of Mount Pleasant, IA; his brother Loren “Buck” (Mona) Whitver of West Union; brothers-in-law: Jim Rasmussen of Jefferson, and Harold Keller of Waukee; sister-in-law: Iola Whitver of Ogden; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; other relatives; and friends..
