Sharon Towers

Sharon Towers, 52, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed from this life in the early morning of March 10, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at her rural farm home near Churdan. She will be laid to rest after courageously fighting a harrowing battle with cancer. Sharon was born the daughter of Wilbur and Phyllis (Blair) Wiederin on Jan. 4, 1963 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, and was a lifelong resident of Churdan.

Sharon graduated from the Paton-Churdan High School in 1981 where she excelled in basketball, track and volleyball. She later attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge where she graduated with a degree in Secretarial Office Occupations.
Sharon Wiederin was married to her high school sweetheart Mick Towers on July 17, 1982 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. Four children were born to this union. Sharon and Mick celebrated 33 years together as best friends, parents and active members of the community. Sharon had a successful career in banking and served as Senior Vice-President and Cashier at the Home State Bank in Jefferson. She enjoyed and was devoted to her work at the bank and even with her battle with cancer, she continued to work part time at the bank until November of 2014.

As a hard-working farm wife, you would often find Sharon helping with chores, 4-H projects, pitching with the girls or shooting hoops. She enjoyed attending her children’s many activities from softball and basketball games, track meets to weddings and helping her growing family. Each July, she loved riding RAGBRAI with her sister-in-laws and friends. Sharon was a woman of God, devoting time and energy to the St. Columbkille parish and raising her family with a strong faith in the Lord.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Michael, four children; Eileen (Danny) Splendore of Perry, Jenny (Will) Nicholson of Perry, Becky (Matt Halling) Towers of Perry and Joseph Towers at home, four beautiful grandchildren; Hayden and Thomas Splendore and Scarlett and William (Bart) Nicholson, mother Phyllis Wiederin of Churdan, sister, Mary (Dave) Lane of Algona, brothers; Mike (Lisa) Wiederin of Churdan and Joe (Denise) Wiederin of Farnhamville, and father and mother-in-law, Duane and Carolyn Towers of Churdan.
