Steven Tasler

Steven Dean Tasler, 70, of Churdan, passed away on June 8 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Mass of the Christian burial was celebrated on June 12 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan with Father John Gerald as celebrant.

Lector for the Mass was Patrick Tasler. Eucharistic minister was Tisha Harmeyer. Gift bearers were his sisters: Marge, Lori and Tina. Music for the Mass was by the St. Columbkille choir with Lois Last as organist and Greg Carey as cantor.

Burial was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery near Lohrville with military honors conducted by the Churdan American Legion and the United States Air Force.

The family requested that those in attendance wear their favorite Iowa State Cyclones shirt.

Steve was born on Sept. 10, 1950, in Lake City, and he was the son of Donald and Lorinda (Pearson) Tasler.

Steve grew up on his family’s farm near Adaza and graduated from Paton–Churdan High School in 1968. Following high school, Steve enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until 1974, and he was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was a graduate of Iowa State University.

Steve was married to Brenda Sorenson in December of 1971 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. The couple eventually established their home on a farm near Somers and to this union two children were born: Christopher and Marta. The couple later divorced.

Steve loved farming, family and his many good friends. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan.

Steve is survived by a son, Christopher Tasler, of Grimes; his daughter Marta Decker (Michael Ragsdale), of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters: Marge Griffith (Roger), of Audubon; Lori Bauer (Vaughn), of Paton; and Christina “Tina” Weierke (Tracy), of Farmington, Minn.; three brothers: Ronald Tasler (Marilyn), of Jefferson; Kim Tasler, of Churdan; and Jay Tasler (Marcia), of Churdan; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.  

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lorinda Tasler, and a brother, Randy Tasler.
