Sue Thede

Sue Ellen Thede, of Jefferson, was born Jan. 12, 1948, in Galva to Blanche (Gray) Alftine and Ivan Alftine.

Sue was called to heaven Jan. 9 at the age of 71.

Services were held Jan. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, with words of comfort by Pastor Dennis Martens.

Vocal solos of “I Can Only Imagine” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” were performed by Larry Dowd, soloist, with Danille Curtis, accompanist.

Congregational singing included “Beautiful Savior,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Honorary bearers were Colton Thede and Hadley Thede.

Casket bearers were Aaron Fagen, Alex Fagen, Scott Thede, Jeremy Thede, Greg Thede and Levi Cloninger.

Interment was in the Jefferson Cemetery.

Sue graduated from Jefferson Community High School in the spring of 1966.

On April 15, 1967, Gary and Sue were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. To this union was born two children, Kari and Scott. 

Over the years, Sue worked at Blaess Shoe Store, Dick and Jim’s Hardware, Franklin Manufacturing and American Athletic Inc. She enjoyed spending her time cleaning houses of those residing in our community.

In her spare time, Sue enjoyed tending and caring for the flowers and vegetables she grew in her garden on the lovely farm where Sue and Gary spent most of their lives. She also enjoyed crocheting blankets and hats for her loved ones. Spending time with her family was high on her priority list.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Ivan; sisters Audrey (Alftine) Carlson and Phyllis (Alftine) Borst; brothers-in law Bob Carlson, Dorrance Borst and Rollie Klocksiem.

She is survived by husband Gary; daughter Kari (Thede) Fagen; son Scott Thede; her grandchildren, Alex and Aaron Fagen, Colton and Hadley Thede; sister Meredith (Alftine) Johnston; nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home assisted the family.
