Thomas Oblinger

Thomas M. Oblinger, 77, of Coralville, died suddenly Saturday, November 28, 2015, at his home.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 4 at First United Methodist Church, 302 13th St. S. in Grand Junction, IA. Burial will be at the Grand Junction Cemetery.  

Tom was born September 29, 1938, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Charles and Anne (Bonynge) Oblinger. Tom graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960. He was drafted in the United States Army during Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1962. Tom was a third generation owner of Oblinger Clothing Store in Grand Junction. He married Zelda Hester in Grand Junction and they moved to Iowa City in 1982.  He worked in sales for a number of years in both Amana and Iowa City. Throughout his entire life he maintained close relationships with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

Tom is survived by his two daughters, Heidi Barker (Sean) and Kristen Ivy (Steve) all of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Owen Barker, Griffin Barker and Annabelle Ivy; his brother Charles Johnson (Carol); and numerous extended family and loyal friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Zelda, and his sister Carol Oblinger.
