boys’ track: String of event titles spark Rams to runner-up finish at conference meet

The momentum continued for the Greene County boys’ track team as postseason action began.
The Rams finished runner-up as a team at the 2021 Heart of Iowa Conference meet thanks to four event titles May 6 in Monroe.
Greene County scored 111 total points to finish behind conference champion Roland-Story (143) while narrowly edging out bronze-medalist South Hamilton (108).
Junior Jackson Morton had a hand in three conference titles, winning both the 110-meter high hurdles (15.45) and the 400-meter low hurdles (58.45) while he also helped anchor the shuttle hurdle-winning relay of Nate Black, Jaxon Warnke, and Bryce Stalder to a top time of 1:02.44.
Fellow junior Logan Woodruff captured Greene County’s fourth title, winning the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:49.14.
The Rams were also powered by five silver medals, as Stalder finished runner-up in the long jump (21-06.75) while Black secured a silver medal in the high jump, clearing 6-feet. Woodruff finished capped off a brilliant day with a silver in the 1,600-meter race (5:04.40) while a pair of relays also finished second. The 4-by-200-meter relay quartet of Nathan Wailes, Jaxon Warnke, Richard Daugherty and Bryce Stalder ran a season-best 1:34.11 to finish runner-up while the 4-by-400-meter grouping of Stalder, Warnke, Morton and Daugherty secured a silver with a time of 3:36.63.
The 2021 co-ed state meet will be held May 20-22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
