Paton-Churdan junior Carleigh Paup has been honored for her superb basketball season by being named to three all-state basketball teams this past week. Paup made the Des Moines Register’s Class 1A second team. She was also listed on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s Class 1A second team, and was a member of the Iowa Newspaper Association’s Class 1A third team. In addition to these, she made an IGCA all-district squad, an Iowa Basketball Coaches Association all-region team, and repeated as a Rolling Valley Conference first team member.
Paup’s 25.2 per game scoring average was best in the league and also was first in Class 1A among players who had played 12 or more games. Carleigh made 41.3 percent of her shots from the field and 71.8 percent of her free throw attempts. She also led the Rolling Valley Conference in steals with 112. In January, Paup became the first female athlete at Paton-Churdan to surpass 1000 career points while playing the five on five game and ended her junior season with 1289 career points.
