After the first day of the two-day Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state golf tournament, Greene County sophomore Rachael Danielson is currently sitting tied for 20th place overall in the Class 4A individual standings as of Tuesday night.
Competition began Tuesday morning at Coldwater Golf Links golf course in Ames and following the first 18 holes of the state tournament, Danielson holds a score of 95. She is in a five-way tie with Sophia Groumoutis of Creston, Elyse Kalb of Dubuque Wahlert, Brooke Galeazzi of Pella, and Kylee Marlay of Fairfield. Leading the competition after Day 1 is Sarah Nacos of Cedar Rapids Washington (78, 1st), Lindsey Repp of Fairfield (83, 2nd), Charolette Flynn of Dubuque Wahlert (81, 3rd), Deanna Peiffer of Cedar Rapids Washington (86, T4), and Alisha Ford of Grinnell (87, T4).
“Rachael left a bunch of strokes out there today and she feels like she could have shot much lower,” Greene County girls head golf coach Heath Telleen said Tuesday. “She hopes to improve her score tomorrow. Overall, it was a good day for her and it was a good learning experience.”
Day 2 action for Class 4A competitors began Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at Coldwater Golf Links and results of Danielson’s second round, as well as final two-day results, will be featured in next week’s sports section.
