A near clean sweep in the field events left the Greene County girls’ track and field team wanting more at the 2021 Heart of Iowa Conference meet May 6 in Monroe.

Ram seniors Bri Osterson and Brooklynn Olson combined for a trio of gold medals May 6 sparking Greene County to a fifth-place team finish.

Osterson captured a conference title in the long jump with a top leap of 15-10.75, out-pacing runner-up Eleanor Rude of Nevada by a couple of inches (15-08.5). Olson swept both throwing events, securing gold in the shot put with a top throw of 38-02 while she also ran away with the discus title, capturing the top spot with a throw of 114-03, nearly seven feet further than Roland-Story’s Madison Geise.

The Rams finished with 80 points as a team, just behind fourth place South Hamilton (83). Roland-Story captured the team title with 130 points, squeaking past runner-up Nevada (122) while PCM snagged a bronze medal with 99 points.

Greene County sophomore Olivia Shannon captured the Rams’ fourth conference title of the day, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.83.

Fellow sophomore Katrina Heupel snagged a silver medal in the 400-meter dash (1:04.66), not far behind champion Ashlyn Erickson of South Hamilton (1:02.92).

Greene County snagged a bronze medal in a trio of relays, finishing third in the 4-by-100-meter relay (52.59), third in the 4-by-200-meter (1:51.68) and third in the 4-by-400-meter relay (4:27.43).

The 2021 co-ed state meet will be held May 20-22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
