Greene County boys tee off twice

The Greene County varsity boys golf team competed at the Des Moines Christian Invitational on Thursday, April 14, held at Jester Park Golf Course in Granger. The Rams finished seventh in the team race, recording a final team score of 402. The final team standings were as follows: 1. Panorama 329, 2. South Hamilton 344, 3. Des Moines Christian 347, 4. Prairie City Monroe 355, 5. Pella Christian 368, 6. Coon Rapids-Bayard 375, 7. Greene County 402, 8. Carlisle 404.

Individually, the Rams were led by Elijah Block, who shot an 18 hole score of 95 (48, 47) on the day. Isaiah Yoder followed Block by tallying a score of 98 (50, 48) and finishing third on the team was Bryce Burkhardt with a 101 (52, 49). Britton Gallagher was fourth with a 108 (57, 51), Travis Gierstorf was fifth with a 113 (56, 57) and Wyatt Funcke was sixth with a 122 (61, 61). Gierstorf’s and Funcke’s scores were not used for the Ram’s team total.

The meet medalist at Jester Park was Panorama’s Adam Hackfort, who shot an overall low score of 79 (37, 42) on the day. Earning runner-up medalist honors was Panorama’s Reid Cobb, who recorded an individual score of 83 (41, 42).

Greene County also competed at home on Saturday, April 16 against visiting Carlisle and Glidden-Ralston at the Jefferson Community Golf Course. The Ram’s varsity team finished first with an 18 hole team score of 365. Carlisle finished second in the team race, shooting a 377 and Glidden-Ralston took third with an overall score of 379.

Individually, Greene County was led by Block, who shot a meet medalist score of 70 (35, 35). Yoder once again followed Block by finishing with a score of 95 (47, 48) and placing third on the team was Gallagher with a 99 (47, 52). Chase Juergensen (50, 51) and Burkhardt (53, 48) both shot a 101 and Gierstorf finished with a 118 (60, 58) on the day to round out the team’s scorecard. Burkhardt’s and Gierstorf’s scores were not used for the Ram’s team total.

Greene County’s junior varsity squad also won their meet, finishing Saturday’s competition with a team score of 483. Carlisle was second with a 532 and Glidden-Ralston did not field a junior varsity team.

Individually, the Ram’s JV team was led by Ben Bravard, who shot a 112 (59, 53) on the day. Rounding out the Greene County scorecard was Curtis Muir with a 120 (63, 57), Zach Neil with a 124 (63, 61), and Cody Gilbertson with a 127 (61, 66).

The Greene County boys golf team will be back in action on Friday when the Rams travel to Roland-Story for a varsity and junior varsity meet.
