Greene County High School Special Olympians Compete

On April 16, the Greene County High School Special Olympics team braved the below average temperatures to compete in the North Central Area track and field competition in Fort Dodge. Students who participated and the places that they received in their divisions were Danny Hulburt- 2nd in softball throw, 5th in the 50 meter dash; Melissa Rice- 1st running long jump, 2nd mini javelin; Cole DeHoet- 1st running long jump, 4th mini Javelin; Kim Stanek- 1st shot put, 2nd 50 meter dash; Makayla Murray- 5th softball throw, 6th 50 meter dash; Rylie Breheny- 1st softball throw,  2nd standing long jump; Kourtlin Thacker- 1st softball throw, 6th 50 meter dash; Nick Garreans-Walsh- 1st in shot put, 1st 400 meter dash. Cole, Kourtlin, Melissa, and Nick were also first place winners in the 4 x 100 relay. All first place winners will go on to compete at the state competition in Ames on May 22-23.

Accompanying the athletes to Fort Dodge were coaches Deb Rogers, Mona Weltz, Sue Lansman, and Jeri Gettler, volunteers Tracy Burgart, Chris Hulburt, Noah Juergensen, and Nicole Burton, and parents Corey and Karibeth Baker.
