IGHSAU releases 2016 regional volleyball pairings

The Greene County and Paton-Churdan volleyball teams open regional play on the road in a few weeks. 

The postseason pairings were released by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union Friday, Sept. 30.

The Rams are slotted in Class 3A region two with a possible match with top-ranked Kuemper Catholic in round two. 

The Rockets begin postseason action in 1A, region five, with a potential Rolling Valley Conference rematch against Glidden-Ralston in round two. 

Greene County travels to Atlantic at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 to take on the 4-21 Trojans of the Hawkeye Ten conference. The winner will take on the victor of the Southeast Valley-Kuemper matchup at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Carroll. The Knights have won 19 straight matches and have yet to lose this season. They are coming off a state tournament appearance in 2015 as well. 

Red Oak, Creston, Clarinda and Shenandoah are also members of region two. 

The region two final will be held on Halloween night (Oct. 31) in Atlantic. 

The Rockets open region five action with a contest against Fort Dodge St. Edmond at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at St. Edmond High School in Fort Dodge. The 8-14 Gaels are in the North Central Conference. 

The winner will play Glidden-Ralston Monday, Oct. 24 in Fort Dodge. 

Top-ranked Janesville sits at the top of Paton-Churdan’s bracket, and will play the winner of AGWSR and Clarksville. North Butler, CAL, Northwood-Kensett, West Bend-Mallard, West Hancock, North Iowa, Bishop Garrigan and Newman Catholic also join the Rockets in region five. 

The region five championship is set for Nov. 1 in Clarion. 

The 2016 state tournament will be held Nov. 8-11 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
