Athletes from nine different schools braved cool and windy conditions for the Ram Relays in Jefferson on Apr. 20. Greene County’s girls team won their third consecutive track competition. The boys team placed first or second in eight events and finished fourth overall in the boys team race.
The girls squad scored in all 19 events, finishing with a total of 177 points and defeating second place Boone by 30 points. The girls won seven events, placed second in five more, and had multiple athletes earn points in eight individual contests. Winning individual events were Emily Finch in the 3000 meter run, Eme Johnson in the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, and Hannah Onken in the discus. Relays that placed first were the 4 x 200 meter (Hannah Stein, Emma Saddoris, Emily Christensen, Olivia Hansen), the shuttle hurdle relay (Mollie Sorber, Nadia Fisher, Sarah Sandage, Johnson), and the 4 x 400 relay (Stein, Saddoris, Christensen, Hansen).
Highlights for the boys team included winning and running a season’s best time in the shuttle hurdle relay (Dylan McConnell, Joe Doran, Daric Whipple, Tyler Beger), winning the 4 x 100 relay (McConnell, Dalton Weber, Dylan Hamilton, Max Neese), and Alex Rasmussen winning both the shot put and discus competitions.
Both the girls and boys 4 x 100 meter relay teams have qualified for the Drake Relays later this week. Eme Johnson has also earned a spot in the 100 meter hurdle competition.
