Ram softball team wins opener

The girls varsity softball team started this season with a 11-2 win over Saydel in Jefferson on May 27. Marissa Promes pitched all seven innings allowing only four hits while recording 10 strike outs and issuing no walks. The bats were alive on opening night as nine different Rams got at least one hit, and three girls connected for two hits each.
Emma Saddoris led the offense by hitting two doubles. Hannah Onken whacked a double and a single, while Carleigh Paup got two singles. Kayla Mobley got on track with a double in the fifth inning and Bailey Godwin, Marissa Promes, Tressa Rasmssen, Emily Christensen and Sydney Koch also had singles in the game. Recording RBI’s in the game were Saddoris and Mobley with two apiece, and Onken, Paup, Godwin,and Promes with one each.
“We hit the ball really well for our first game and got a lot of contributions from many players,” said head coach Tom Kennedy. We had some girls playing in new positions tonight, and I thought they all did very well. It is nice to start the season on a positive note.”

The Ram junior varsity team lost their first game 5-4 in six innings. The Eagles scored a run early in the game, but Greene County came storming back in the bottom of the first inning when Maudi Paniagua hit a two run homerun to give the home team the lead. The Rams continued to lead 2-1 until the fifth when the Eagles put up four runs, and the Rams could only answer with one. Greene County added another run in the bottom of the sixth, but it was not enough to pull ahead. Other hits besides the home run from Paniagua were a double from Hannah Cooklin, two singles from Bailey Godwin, and one single each from Katelyn                       Hagen, MacKenzie Dennhardt, and Hannah Promes.
