Rams unveil schedule for upcoming autumn campaign

It’s never too early to think about football. Within the National Football League circles, it’s the upcoming draft. With intercollegiate athletics, it’s spring practices.

For the Greene County High School football program, it’s cementing its fall schedule.

Announced this past Tuesday by the Rams’ football social media platforms, the red and black will see the same opponents as last season – just the inverse of the previous road games for home matchups, and vice versa.

On August 30 at Linduska Field in Jefferson, the Rams will seek out revenge against Carroll. Then, on Sept. 6, Greene County will face off against Perry for “The Battle for the Bell” at Dewey Field in Perry.

The Rams then wrap up their non-district schedule with a road matchup against Atlantic, slated for Sept. 13 at the Trojan Bowl in Atlantic. 

Starting on Sept. 20, the Rams enter the Class 2A-District 8 portion of their campaign, welcoming in Saydel to Linduska Field. The following week, Sept. 27 to be exact, Greene County will square off against state quarterfinalist Kuemper Catholic at Carroll Athletic Field.

Oct. 4 will see the Rams and Roland-Story battle for a district clash at Linduska Field, followed by an Oct. 11 meeting between Greene County and Southeast Valley. The second ever matchup between the Rams and Jaguars is set for Jaguar Field in Gowrie.

In their regular season finale, the red and black will take on Des Moines Christian for Senior Night on Oct. 18 at Linduska Field. 

The Rams, guided by head coach Caden Duncan, will seek out a bounce back after finishing with a 3-5 overall record in 2023. It was the first time that Greene County had missed postseason football since the fall of 2017.
