Rockets run in final regular season meet

On Thursday, May 5, the Paton-Churdan varsity boys and girls track and field teams participated in their final regular season competition at the Jim Yunek Coed Relays in Lake City. The meet was hosted by the South Central Calhoun Titans and at the end of a long day on the track, the Rockets are now ready to move into postseason action.
At last Thursday’s meet, the P-C boys placed ninth in the team standings, scoring four total points. South Central Calhoun won the competition with 140 points, Pocahontas Area took second with 74 1/2 points, and East Sac County finished third with 90 points. In the girls division, the Rockets earned a seventh place finish by scoring 31 total points for the day. Pocahontas Area won the meet with 152 points, Southeast Valley took second with 93 points, and East Sac County finished third with 91 points.
Top individual performances for the Rocket boys included Isaac Ireland in the 800 meter run, 2:15.19 (6th), the 4x400 relay (Joe Thede, Eric Thompson, Clayton Smith, Ireland), 4:07.92 (6th), the 4x800 relay (Jack Bryson, Ireland, Thede, Thompson), 9:28.94 (6th), and the sprint medley relay (Thede, Smith, Thompson, Bryson), 4:13.94 (6th).
For the P-C girls, there was Megan Carey in the 200 meter dash, 27.99 (1st), Carey in the 400 meter dash, 1:02.23 (1st), Carleigh Paup in the 100 meter hurdles, 17.11 (5th), Paup in the long jump, 14 feet 6 3/4 inches (5th), Jenna Beyers in the shot put, 30 feet 2 inches (6th), and the sprint medley relay (Grace Geisler, Jenna Beyers, Paup, Carey), 2:00.11 (3rd).
Both the boys and girls squads will compete today at their Class 1A district site to see who will qualify for the 2016 IAHSAA State Track Meet. Action will take place at Manson-NW Webster High School.
