Three Ram champs and Scheuermann’s 100th win at Ogden tournament

Greene County varsity wrestling team participated in a 10 team dual tourney at Ogden on December 14. The Rams won went 28-14 on the matches that they wrestled, won three of the five dual meets they had, and had three wrestlers who were champions in their respective weight classes. The Rams recorded 21 pins, four decisions (out scoring the opponent by 1-7 points), one major decision (out scoring the opponent by 8-14 points), and two technical falls (out scoring the opponent by 15 points). They also accepted four forfeits from other teams, and gave up 13 forfeits to other teams throughout the day.  

The 10 teams were divided into two pools. Each team wrestled the four other teams in their pool to determine rankings in the pool. Each school’s last match of the day was with the team who had the same ranking in the other pool. Greene County met Ogden in their last match as both schools finished second in their respective pools. Since Ogden beat Greene County, the Rams finished in fourth place in the tournament. Humboldt, who is currently ranked sixth in the 2A team rankings, won the tournament. Jacob Challen, Jordan Challen, and Jeremy Scheuermann all went 5-0 for the day and  were named champions of their weight class. Scheuermann also notched his 100th career varsity win after winning his third match of the day. He joins an elite club of only 15 other wrestlers that have achieved that many wins in the 47 years that there has been a Jefferson based wrestling program.

Ram head coach Mark Sawhill was pleased to win three of five duals with the lack of wrestlers at several weights. He was also pleased to see some of the less experienced wrestlers get wins in a varsity tournament, and was happy that Scheuermann was rewarded for his hard work by making the 100 win club.
